Human Verification Levels: Private vs Handle vs Face
Not every situation needs a full face badge. Learn which verification level to use and how expiry affects trust.
A good verification product separates two ideas: proof of humanity (a real person was present) and proof of identity (which person it was).
Human (Private)
Use private mode when you only need a bot-resistant signal. The badge focuses on recency and expiry. Great for low-stakes communities.
Human + Handle
Handle mode adds a name/handle. This is useful in marketplaces and DMs where identity-lite trust helps, without necessarily showing a face.
Human + Face
Face mode is for higher trust contexts (marketplaces, dating). You can blur the face for privacy or show it clearly for maximum confidence.
Why expiry matters
- Short TTL increases recency trust and reduces badge sharing.
- Longer TTL is acceptable when identity signals are stronger.
- Always trust the live page behind the link, not screenshots.
